In 1812, Koenig, Germany, made the first curved surface offset press for rotary lithography; in 1847, Hoy, the United States, invented the rotary press; in 1900, made the six-color rotary press; in 1904, Rubel, the United States, invented the offset press.

Prior to the 1950s, the traditional relief printing technology dominated the printing industry, and the development of printing press was mainly relief printing press. However, the lead alloy relief printing process has the shortcomings of high labor intensity, long production cycle and environmental pollution. Since the 1960s, lithographic offset printing technology with short cycle and high productivity began to rise and develop. Lead alloy relief printing was gradually replaced by lithographic offset printing. Soft relief printing, orifice printing, electrostatic printing, inkjet printing and so on have also been developed in packaging printing and advertising printing.
